A brief description of the group
The event is held yearly since 1999, alternatively in North America and Europe.
The partecipants come from different backgrounds, and share a wish to pursue their mutual interest in the Movements in a democratic context, respectful of all and open to the contribution of each.
The instructors that cooperate in the teaching share extensive knowledge and substantial appreciation of the Movements, and the practical organization is managed by a group of volunteers who are dedicated to working with the principles of conscious relationship.
Our hope is to maintain a lively context in which Movements practice helps to foster and catalyze a process of personal evolution for the participants.
We welcome new participants who demonstrate substantial, practical familiarity with Movements practice.
Deborah Rose Longo has been an instructor of the Gurdjieff Movements for over 30 years, working with groups in the United States, Germany, Australia, England, Chile, Canada, Italy, India, Russia, Ukraine and South Korea. She began her training in the Gurdjieff Work and the Sacred Dances in 1975 at the Claymont Society for Continuous Education in Charles Town, West Virginia (founded by John Bennett), where she has been a long time community member.
Deborah Rose is an artist specializing in mandala making and has had her work featured in numerous publications. In recent years, she has also enjoyed the challenges of substitute teaching in the public school system as an opportunity to positively influence the lives of many young souls.
Melanie Monsour has been the pianist for Sacred Movements events around the world and has performed the music of Gurdjieff/De Hartman in the U.S., Europe, Australia, Chile, India, Russia, Canada and South Korea for 23 years. She is currently a member of the teaching faculty of the Santa Fe University of Art and Design, and on staff with the National Dance Institute of New Mexico.
She has eight CDs, a Gurdjieff/de Hartmann compilation and eight compilations of original compositions, the most recent works: “Along the Way,” “Echoes of Light” and ” The Keeper.” Melanie’s considerable gift as a pianist is an expression of a light-hearted and deeply meditative presence that is a strong source of support and inspiration for the Work.
Senior Movements teacher Deborah Rose Longo, and several experienced Movements teachers who are members of the organizing group, will be facilitating the Movements sessions during the Retreat.
